Pictured at the left is the Rose Garden Arena which is home to the Portland Trail Blazers. With the young core of players at the Blazers the fans have resurged and enjoy the the hard work and upstanding players that make up the team. Also the Portland Winterhawks play many of their games at the Rose Garden too. The Portland Winterhawlks are Portland's minor league hockey team.

 

Southeast Portland--Southeast Portland has blue-collar roots and has evolved to encompass a wide mix of backgrounds. The Hawthorne district in particular is known for its hippie/radical crowd and small subculturally-oriented shops. Southeast featured the Lambert Gardens from the 1920s and the 1960s and is also known for Mt. Tabor, a cinder cone volcano that has become one of Portland's more scenic and popular parks.

Dog Parks 

 

Brentwood Park is located at SE 60th Ave. & Duke St. in SE Portland.  The off-leash area is adjacent to the Joseph Lane School, near the soccer field and tennis courts.  It is fenced and there are trees for shades, dog bags, but no water. 

 

Cherry Park is a large shared park located in SE Portland, near 106th and Stephens. The park is secluded and it is bordered on two sides by fencing.  There are no dog bags, water, or garbage cans available. 

 

Creston Park is located at SE 44th Ave. & SE Powell Blvd. You will find the off-lease area towards the center of the park. Dog bags are provided but no water is available.

 

Laurelhurst Park is located at SE Cesar E Chavez Blvd & Stark St.  The unleashed dog area is off of SE Oak.  The summer hours are listed as 5:00am – 10:00am and 6:00pm – 10:30pm on weekdays and weekends from 7:00pm – 10:30pm except when there are special events.  The rest of the year the unleashed area is open from 5:00am-10:30pm on the weekdays and 5:00am-10:00am and 4:00 pm-10:30 pm on the weekends.

 

Lents Park is located at SE 92nd Ave & Holgate Blvd and has an unfenced area for dogs off SE Steele in the southwest corner of the park.

 

Lynchwood Park is located at SE 170th Ave & Haig St. The unleashed area is at the southern end of the park by Lynchwood School.  Hours are June 15- September 1:  5am-10am and 7pm- midnight.  September 2- October 31 and April 1- June 14th: 5am-7:30am, 9:30-11:30am, and 6:pm-midnight on weekdays and 5am – midnight on weekends.  The winter hours, November 1-March 31st, are 5-7:30 am, 9:30am-11:30am, and 4:00pm-midnight on weekdays and 5am – midnight on weekends. 

 

Mt. Tabor Park is located at SE 60th & Salmon St.  There is a partial fence for the unleashed dog area.  It is located at the south end of the park by SE Division.

 

Sellwood Riverfront Park is located at SE Spokane St & Oaks Pkwy.  The unleashed area has summer hours set at 5am-10am and 6pm-midnight on weekdays and 5am-10am and 7pm-midnight on weekends.  The rest of the year from September 2 to June 14 the hours are 5am-midnight on weekdays and 5am-10am and 4pm-midnight on weekends.

 

Sewallcrest Park is located at SE 31st Ave & Market St. The unleashed area is located at the southwestern area of the park by SE 31st and Stephens.  July 15th through September 1 the unleashed hours are from 6am-9:am and 7pm – midnight on the weekdays and 6am-10am and 7pm-midnight on the weekends.  From September 2-30th the hours are 6am-9am and 7pm-midnight on weekdays and  Saturday 6am-8am and 4pm-midnight and Sunday 6am-midnight.  October 1-31 hours are 6am-9am and 6pm – midnight on the weekdays and Saturday 6am-8am and 4pm-midnight and Sunday 6am-midnight.  November 1-March 31 the are 6am-8am and 4pm-midnight on weekdays and 6am-midnight on weekends.  April 1-July 14 the hours are 6am-9:am and 7pm – midnight on the weekdays and 6am-8am and 7pm-midnight on Saturday and 6am-midnight on Sunday. 

 

Woodstock Park is located at SE 47th Ave & Steele St.  The unleashed area is located north of the wading pool closest to SE 47th street.  The hours are from 5am-10am and 7pm-midnight from June 15th-September 1.  From September 2-October 31st and April 1- June 14th the hours are 5am-8am, 9:30am-11:30am and 6pm-midnight on weekdays and 5am-midnight on weekends.  From November 1-March 31 the hours are from 5am-8am, 9:30-11:30am, and 4pm-midnight on weekdays and 5am-midnight on weekends.

Demographic

All district in East Portland had household incomes reported as less than the National Average except Pleasant Valley. All district reported the average home age newer than Portland's average home age of 1950 but only Wilkes and Pleasant Valley reported their average home age newer than the National average of 1974. Six out of 9 districts have home ownership lower than the National Average.

Eleven districts out of fifteen had household incomes less than the National Average with Buckman district considerably lower than the national average. Buckman's median household income came in at $28,619 while the National Average came in at $44,512. More than half the districts show property taxes greater than the National Average and all the districts have an average home age considerably older than the National Average. The percentage of home ownership is considerably lower than the National Average for districts Creston-Kenilworth, Buckman, Brooklyn, and Kerns.

Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition began in 1968 and is one of seven coalitions in Portland supporting ninety-five neighborhoods, with twenty neighborhood associations.
